According to AIIMS, India’s apex medical institution, the novel coronavirus can’t be spread by dead bodies. The institute’s chief scientist, Dr. Randeep Guleria states that “the virus can only spread through coughing or mouth droplets of an infected person”. This statement comes ahead of the supposed second wave’s cremation controversy in April 2021. The Union Health Ministry also issued additional guidelines for handling the COVID-19 deceased cases in order to curtail “misinformation and rumors”.
